In a seminar on "Doing Theology of Creation in Asian Cultures" in 2000, there was one constant in the stories of creation told by women from various cultures: all human beings come from one Source -- the Creator The first woman was created and became the mother of humanity. In the biblical narrative the woman is called Eve (Chavvah) -- "the mother of all life." Interestingly enough, the creation stories from different cultures give her different names, but they all point back to the same creative Source. Hence, all humanity can join a tribe in Northeast India in singing their song:
Oh, children of the earth,
Let us celebrate,
Let us sing and dance,
Let all hear the melody of drum.
It is harvest time,
God has answered our prayer!
