The news about the student protests in universities and colleges across the nation currently are dominating our newspapers and television news casts. After 11 September 2001, notwithstanding the efforts of world leaders to form a broad coalition, the world remains divided. Some Muslims believe that the war is against them, while some Christians blame Muslims for the acts of terror committed by a few fanatics. More than ever we need to open our minds and hearts to accept that all human beings are created by God. It is not only the biblical revelation that proclaims this. The sacred scripture of Islam also declares: "You were created as different nations and tribes, not that you should despise one another, but that you should learn from one another" (Qur'an, Sura 49) .
Our hope is that the vision of Isaiah (11:6-9) will be fulfilled in our time: "The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. . . They will neither harm or destroy on all your holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea." This is our prayer; this is our hope!
